What were the street style trends this latest fashion week in Paris?

Although the runway presentations were without a doubt the most memorable part of the schedule for Fashion Month (who could possibly miss that Bella Hadid x Coperni paint spray gown event?), this year the sartorialists presented important trends on the cobblestone streets of Paris. Here are the 5 most prominent street style trends that emerged during SS23, ranging from The double Denim through Trusty Trenches and Gothcore:

THE TRIED-AND-TRUE TRENCH

During this past winter in Paris, it was almost impossible to go down any street without seeing at least one person wearing a trench coat. Yoyo Cao, who paired her Dior trench coat with a brown lace-up corset, while TyLynn Nguyen presented a statement for the dressed casually trench coat. The traditionally British staple found its way over the ditch and into the flanks of fashionistas like Yoyo Cao as well as TyLynn Nguyen.

MAXI SKIRT

It’s possible that the extremely appealing midi-skirt has seen its moment in the sun. For the past few times, teeny-tiny short skirts had already overtaken the further tolerant hemline. However, now that the fashionable set at PFW has given us a completely new skirt design to live with, we have quite a completely fresh skirt aesthetic to play with. Maxi skirts that reached the floor and had a dramatic, column-style silhouette were seen everywhere. Outside of the Chloe presentation, Tiffany Hsu donned a brown maxi skirt, whilst Caroline Daur sported a full-length red denim skirt that she paired with knitted elbow-length gloves. Both of these looks were inspired by the collections that were being shown. The one and only guideline is that the longer it is, the better.

DOUBLE DENIM

Following its appearance as a significant street fashion statement at Milan Fashion Week and Copenhagen Fashion Week, dual denim also appeared on the board again for design class in Paris, as demonstrated by Sarah Harris and Annabel Rosendahl, respectively. Even if it was much more muted than what we witnessed in Milan, it is very evident that the “Texan tuxedo” is here to stay. Yee-haw!

BRA TOPS

During Paris Fashion Week, perhaps the crop top was worn by the trendsetters in a way that revealed even more skin than usual. These days, wearing a tiny crop top or a bralet is the best method to show off your midsection. Put your own spin on the style by imitating Poppy Delevigne and bringing it into the colder months by layering it beneath a jacket. There is no longer such such thing as showing off one’s abs an excessive amount.

GOTHCORE

If you’re sick of the overly sugary Barbiecore fashion trend, the most recent street style trend to come out of Paris may be one that appeals to your sensibilities. “Back to black” remained on the schedule for even the most sugary of sartorialists, and many people decided to forgo pink in favor of its darker, Wednesday Addams-esque relative. Jessica Wang appeared in an all-black ensemble by Sacai, while some other It-girls demonstrated their luxury outfits on the street style.
